A sew-in in Des Moines usually costs somewhere between $75 and $220 for the install, before you buy the hair. At LovelyHair in West Des Moines it starts at $150. Here's what sits behind that number, and how to tell a fair quote from a rushed one.

What other Des Moines stylists charge

On Booksy's Des Moines sew-in page (checked on 30 September 2026), local stylists list sew-ins from about $75 to $220. The cheapest slots are usually short ones, 90 minutes or so, and the top of the range is a full install with a closure or a frontal that can take five or six hours.

So when you compare prices, compare the time too. A sew-in that lies flat and lasts eight weeks takes a while: the braid pattern alone is careful work, and that's the part that decides whether the tracks show through.

What changes the price

  • Leave-out, closure or frontal. A leave-out blends your own hair at the front and is the quickest. A closure covers the top. A frontal runs ear to ear and takes the most fitting.
  • Length and fullness. More hair means more tracks to sew.
  • The hair itself. Bundles are usually their own cost. Bring yours, or pick them in our supply room, which sits in the same space as the chairs. Your stylist will tell you how many you need.
  • Cut and style. Ours includes cutting and styling the finished look, so there's no surprise line at the end.

How the appointment goes

  1. Wash and braid pattern

We wash and condition your hair, then map a braid pattern to your head shape.

  2. Wefts sewn in

Each weft is hand-sewn onto the braids, flat and secure, with light tension at the roots.

  3. Blend the top

The closure, frontal or leave-out is fitted and blended so the parting looks like yours.

  4. Cut and style

We cut and style the finished look before you leave.

Care that keeps it fresh

  • Wrap it every night in a satin scarf or bonnet.
  • Keep your scalp clean between the tracks and dry it fully after washing.
  • Go easy on heavy oils at the roots; they build up under the braids.
  • Take it out on time. Past about eight weeks the new growth starts to tangle at the base.

Not sure whether you want a closure, a frontal or a leave-out? Book the sew-in and tell us in the notes. We'll talk it through at the start and agree the price before we begin.
